Speaking of documentaries (in the Freethinker News forum) --- an incredible looking film has won Best Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival. It's called "Trouble the Water", and documents Hurricane Katrina before, during, and after the storm. A couple in the 9th Ward of New Orleans could not afford to evacuate. They went to the Superdome and knew it looked too crowded and dangerous to stay there, so they just went back home and hoped for the best. Kimberly Roberts picked up her video camera and started filming -- you actually see the water coming into her house and filling it up. They are forced into the attic, and eventually on the roof.
But the whole film isn't just about that, it's about the conditions that put them in a place where they couldn't evacuate, about the treatment of NOLA by the Feds after the storm, and how people tried to put their lives back together. It looks like it will be really an experience to watch.
