Branding Students for Jusus

Post by LaWood »

I always thought the South, particularly Arkies, W. Virgina and Tenn were the leaders in wacknut religio-cases. Sorry but we seemed to have lost that honor.

Ohio board votes to ax teacher accused of branding

"Freshwater used a science tool known as a high-frequency generator to burn images of a cross on students' arms in December, the report said. Freshwater told investigators he simply was trying to demonstrate the device on several students and described the images as an "X," not a cross. But pictures show a cross, the report said.

Other findings show that Freshwater taught that carbon dating was unreliable to argue against evolution."

NOW he is going to court:

John Freshwater is going to trial

Remember the case of John Freshwater, the Ohio science teacher who burned a cross into a student's arm and decorates his desk with Christian kitsch? He's a raving mad loon, but he's also fun and popular with the Christian kids at school (who are, naturally, a majority).

Now John Freshwater and the school district are going to court.

Freshwater's action and the administration's inaction, the lawsuit states, "have the purpose and effect of endorsing religion over non-religion and Christianity over other religious beliefs, thus violating the neutrality portion of the Establishment Clause."

In addition to asking the court to issue an injunction against the teaching of religion in the school, the plaintiffs seek compensatory damages, punitive damages, reasonable attorney fees, prejudgment interest and post judgment costs, and other relief the court deems appropriate.

Looks like a cross to me

Post by RobertMadewell »

Looks like a cross to me, but the symbol is irrelevant. Why in heck was he branding anything on childrens arms. I dont care if he was burning crosses or smileys into the kids skins. He was still burning kids. Why oh why? I imagine the teens screaming in pain as the stench of burning flesh fills the students nostrils.

Symbols are just symbols and have no magical powers. However a hot peice of metal has plenty of power to do harm.

Well it was some kind of "high frequency generator." It might not have hurt (might have tickled) and may not be permanent. If it is, then he is extra dumb and in for some big law suits. Either way it was a really dumb thing to do.

I have no problem with his branding of students (of their own volition) with a religious symbol. I am forced to wounder why THIS issue has caught public attention rather than his obvious inadequacy as an educator

Really. It's illegal for minors to get tattoo's with out parental consent but this law should be waived for public school teachers who want to practice on the kiddies?

I don't see them as separate. I thought the focus was the stupidity of the educator.

Well, if he's really a physicist, he ought to be good at measuring things...
