Darwin Quote

Post by redheadedskeptic »

I went to the Farmer's Market today, and they had a nice little Creationist booth set up with a sign that read: "'I cannot look at the universe as the result of blind chance' -Darwin."

They had loads of free literature which I happily helped myself to, along with a copy of Darwin's letter containing the quote. I read it, and the entire sentence reads

"My theology is a simple muddle; yet I can see no evidence of beneficent design, or indeed I cannot look at the universe as the result of blind chance of design of any kind, in the details."

Talk about taking something out of context!!! And people were giving ME flak for supposedly doing the same thing about the Bible on my Examiner page the other day. . .

That one is pretty bad, but do you really expect intellectual integrity and honesty from creationists? After all, their mastery of accepting bullshit and bullshit reasoning is what makes them creationists in the first place.

If it's the same dunce that was there a few months ago, I roasted him at the Farmer's Market and challenged him to produce evidence of some of his claims. He was decidedly disinterested in pursuing the subject at that point. I told him he ought to be ashamed of himself for being so ignorant.

My son just called me from the Farmers Market and said "Dad there is this guy here with creationist stuff, you gotta come and roast him!"

I said I know all about it, I've been on the freethinker forum. I told him to roast him himself and invite the guy to the meeting.

I wish you guys would stop destroying creationist. I think it is unethical and heartless. I would be much more in favor of a neuter and release program.

That is precisely what we do. But we find most of them don't have any balls in the first place.

Yes, this issue does come up and this is why I do not believe that insufficient resources have been allocated to address this problem effectively. This is a subject I feel rather passionately about. If it would be okay with you, Darrel, I would like to address the free thinker community at our next meeting and take up a special collection that could be used, not only to expand our current neuter/spay and release program, but also to begin a "No Kill" shelter where these unwanted can be housed and cared for until such a time as they can be matched up with a good home. What are your thoughts regarding this idea?

I think that we should continue making these people feel ashamed at their utter stupidity and let natural selection take its course... Tough love, if you will.

Reminds me I have about six little billy goats that need to go to the vet to get fixed. Want to come and help hold them down? Goes pretty quick really.
