While polls show continuing growth in disapproval of Bush#2's policy and US-led war/occupation in Iraq and Fayetteville had on March 11 500+ people attend a peace rally, it seems that the local peace movement really needs to work at a serious campaign against war that would appeal to a wide spectrum of views - such as those closely-connected to the military. At the April 20th OMNI Center Steering Committee Meeting I will try to start that campaign. We need a committee (i.e. a group of committed people that meets regularly to plan and promote periodic protests). The challenges I suspect will be figuring out the best times and places to protest and developing a concensus about how to stay "on message". Past protests seemed to have lost or kept away protesters who objected to certain tactics or messages. I hope that we can develop a concensus based on principle such as respecting those with whom we don't agree and avoiding divisive messages.
OMNI has 2 series of protests in Fayetteville. This schedule may change after the Steering Committee Meeting at the OMNI Center where we will should discuss adjusting the protest days, times and places in the interest of increasing participation. If you want some input, please either come to the meeting and/or email Chris the protest organizer at omniprotest@yahoo.com.
