Duggars Strike Again
The Duggers have announced the 18th child is on its way.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080509/ap_ ... /18_kids_7
The last child was born last August 2007. This just proves again they hypocrisy of religion. Here is a family that can not spit out enough kids and they believe they are doing gods work. If there is a god, which there is no strong evidence to support, I am sure that he/she/it is very dissapointed with the Duggars. There are so many kids out there that need a home but because this family can not see how narrow minded and selfish their acts are, kids who need a home will never find room with these people. I'm sure that they would see anyone other than some genetic off spring of their own as inferior.
We found on the Discovery Health web site a whole section dedicated to the Duggars. They have a huge house, I'm sure provided by other religious nuts, and they live in Toni Town not far from Fayettville.
I just had another though occur to me. These people will not open up their home to other children that could use a home but they are willing to except help from all kinds of other people to support their kids. What happen to the part of being "my brothers keeper"? I guess as long as the Duggars are the "kept brother" it is OK.

Reminds me of a televangelist that I was watching (I must have been really bored) who told me that the reason God is against homosexuals is because the relationship produces no offspring. This really upset me, because my wife may not be able to bear children. So according to this minister my relationship with my wife is against God because it produces no children.
I do not understand this focus on reproduction. We live in a time when there are plenty of humans on this planet. In a few decades we may be facing some real overpopulation problems. Some countries already are.

Hey, everyone. Sherry (James's wife) here.
Just want to clarify a couple of things: the Duggars apparently have a program on the Discovery Health network, thus their Discovery-connected website. I've never seen the show, nor do I want to. I'm fairly sure it's all packaged as the perfect family, all cuddles and sweetness and light. Pa-yuke. No thanks! It's very doubtful that any tough questions are asked of these freakish people, such as "Why do you feel the need to continue to have biological children when so many tens of thousands of foster kids out there truly need homes?", or "Why must your children all look alike in style and grooming? Is there no room in your family for individuality?"
I also have no doubt that Michelle Duggar will continue to pump out babies for as long as her body will tolerate it. One day I expect to see a minor headline that "Mrs. Duggar's Uterus Seeks Asylum in Canada."
It is prominently announced on the Duggar's website that they are not in debt. As my husband intimated, well - yee-ha for them! Most likely they're not in debt because of the seemingly limitless donations levied upon them for their bizarre status and because they're obvious publicity hounds who have to find a way to "stay out of debt." Perhaps they charge a fee for every word quoted in the media.
These people are revolting to me. It should be obvious to anyone what's really going on with the Duggars: they are creating their own religious mini-cult. The children are, of course, home-schooled (did you expect anything else?) And then the grandchildren will start rolling in! Oh boy, I can't wait: all the smiling girls with their bad 1840's pioneer style and the perfect little Opie-boys with their bullet-proof televangelist hair. Ugh. And all of them with be saying the same creepy things with the same creepy demeanor.
I cannot help but wonder if ANY of these kids will ever find the 'nads to stand up to their parents and think for themselves. Um . . . probably not. But then I'm somewhat of a pessimist.

Considering what could be happening in the next decade or two (rising temps, rising water, rising prices on everything) maybe they are planning ahead - their own tribe for protection and all that. Fundies have always had this lack of connect - they always blamed it on the RCs, but while I've seen RC natural families (not counting 2nd marriages and adoptions) of 8 or so, it's been the Mormons and other RW fundies that go into the upper teens. (Personal experience here, not official stats.) I'm just surprised the Mrs is still alive. That kind of "creativity" was well known for killing off wives. I guess not having to haul the plow as well makes up for it.

Oh, I don't know. People can have as many kids as they want or can feed (even on donated money). That's a basic freedom I wouldn't want to mess with (until it gets like China). The US is not suffering from an extraordinary birth rate. Fortunately, most sensible people want to enjoy their life so as education and standard of living goes up, birth rate goes down. These people are just an anomaly, a circus act. I know their motivations. I have met them and have been their house once. They are part of the "Quiverful Project" or something like that. They consider their children little religious arrows to shoot into the future. Same mentality as the Jesus Camp. They are sincere and simple but it's too little too late. Christianity is in major decline in the US and they are not going to breed their way out of it this time.

Jordan-Grace had a safe landing, now in the hangar.

Is having a third child an eco-crime?
A recent SFGate news story, "Arkansas family welcomes 18th child," caught my attention. The article reports on Michelle Duggar who delivered a baby girl, named Jordyn-Grace, last Thursday.[12-18-08]
"The ultimate Christmas gift from God," said Jim Bob Duggar, the father. "She's just absolutely beautiful, like her mom and her sisters."
The Duggars now have 10 sons and eight daughters.
The story struck a nerve because just the other night my husband, Anthony, shunned my suggestion that we try for a third.
"Honey, I always wanted a big family and I love our kids so much and wouldn't it be great to have another baby?" I said.
"What about the environment?" he responded. "Absolutely not! There are enough people in this world!"
I stomped off irked by his response, but deep down I knew he had a valid point. By having a third child, we wouldn't be simply replacing ourselves. We would be claiming more of the Earth's resources. The United Nations estimates that the human population, currently at 6.5 billion, is well on its way to 9.2 billion in 2050. The increase in people couldn't be good for global warming--even if tomorrow we all start driving hybrids, eating locally grown foods, and installing solar panels on our roofs. And I imagine that food and water supply are also serious issues to consider when you add an extra 3.3 billion people to the planet.

Re: Duggars Strike Again

Legendary exchange from Groucho's You Bet Your Life television show with contestant Mrs. Story, who has informed Groucho that she and her husband have 17 children:
Groucho Marx: Why do you have so many children? That's a big responsibility and a big burden.
Mrs. Story: Well, because I love my children and I think that's our purpose here on Earth and I love my husband.
Groucho Marx: I love my cigar too, but at least I take it out of my mouth once in a while.
Note: This is a very popular urban legend about You Bet Your Life. It didn't happen, but it should have.
"We could have done something important Max. We could have fought child abuse or Republicans!" --Oona Hart (played by Victoria Foyt), in the 1995 movie "Last Summer in the Hamptons."
Re: Duggars Strike Again
A good thing to note here is that they are continuing to have more children well after the mother was told by her doctor that it was becoming more and more dangerous with each child to continue having more children, shown on the Discovery Health special. She then stated her intent was to keep having children 'for as long as God allows her to', or something of the sort. Regardless of whether you consider indoctrination of children wrong in itself, or even purposefully having children for that sole purpose, the fact that they intend to have more children even at the possible expense of the existing children losing their mother (a definite impact on the ability to care for them) is unsettling.Darrel wrote:Oh, I don't know. It's her life, her body. Freedom comes with the price of people being able to make poor decisions. I am also for euthanasia on the principle that if you don't own you body, what do you own? In Wal-Mart yesterday I noticed these guys have a book out. Many of them were hand signed by the kids. I was tempted to get one for a relative in Canada ($13). They are our own little Arkansas novelty sideshow. I tuned their piano once.
Boy, my sentences are jerky tonight.

By the way, since there is a strong correlation (see this pdf. file of the paper) between how many older male siblings a boy has and whether he is gay, the Duggars are probably raising at least a couple of gay boys.
Biological versus nonbiological older brothers and men’s sexual orientation
The most consistent biodemographic correlate of sexual orientation in men is the number of older brothers (fraternal birth order). The mechanism underlying this effect remains unknown... Only biological older brothers, and not any other sibling characteristic, including nonbiological older brothers, predicted men’s sexual orientation, regardless of the amount of time reared with these siblings. These results strongly suggest a prenatal origin to the fraternal birthorder
effect.

Re: Duggars Strike Again
I was just going to say the same thing as Doug, only not quite so scientifically. Chances are good that some of those children will be gay, or bisexual, or transsexual. How will they handle this? There's a local guy who used to be involved on nwapolitics who has 9 children and he is very active in the anti-gay machine, judging from his main area of interest on the chat. I used to know him and he always seemed gay to me, so because this is his main area of interest it seems reasonable to think that gay tendencies are something he battles every day and therefore he thinks everyone else does, too. I asked him how he would handle it if one of his 9 children were gay and he insisted that would not happen. I guess if it does, these families will just pray the gay away.
