Rapture, 70s Style
July 9, 2008

Here’s a great collection of images from Christian comic books of the 1970s and early 80s. Christian pop culture has gotten somewhat more sophisticated since then, but there’s a certain unbeatable charm to these artifacts. The super-sexy girls and the occasional, um, snatches of dialogue like this one make me wonder if the artists and writers sometimes thought the whole thing was a joke.

The guy has an interesting book too.

Yeah, it looks alot like the Jack Chick style comics I used to read. I think it's funny the the guy is looking up the girls skirt and says, "The Great Snatch!" Maybe you're right that the author of this comic thought it was a big joke.

Jack Chick applied for a job with Marvel Comics and was turned down. So he decided to litter the world with his extremist cartoon tracts. Who knows what would have happened if he'd been hired to draw, say, the Sub-Mariner or Dr. Strange? The world would have been a better place, at least.
