Q&A @ Brand New Church (aka BNC)

Post by RobertMadewell »

Brand New Church is a fairly young mega-church in Bergman, AR. They have a membership between 2 and 3 thousand people last time I heard. Bergman has a population of maybe 600 people. So, the tiny little town swells with 5 times its population every sunday.

Every Wednesday they are conducting an online Q&A. I attended last Wednesdays Q&A and asked a question concerning The Problem of Hell.
How is the doctrine of hell compatible with an all-merciful, all-loving, and all just God?
He used the ol' freewill and God's methods are beyond our understanding arguments.

However, they will be conducting another Q&A on Wednesday, December 10, 6:30 PM. I plan to be there. There is a chat room you can type into while listening to Shannon O'Dell (the pastor). I'd like to invite all my friends on this board to join me there for a good ol' "embarrassing question" asking time.

Here's the URL:http://live.brandnewchurch.com/ (If you go there before next wednesday, you'll get a canned message by O'Dell.)

I'm also planning to attend the online service Sunday, December 7, 11:00 AM. There's a chat room there too, but you can't chat and watch the video feed at the same time. The online service is at a different site. Join me there too if you want. I try not to cause trouble, but every time I've attended I have angered someone by asking a simple question.
Here's the URL for the sunday service: http://www.brandnewchurch.com/indexhome.php (Click on iCampus, You can register, but I think you can attend as a guest too.)

I'd be glad to have a friend or two in there with me. The chatters can be a little nasty. I feel like a rabbit at a dog race when I go. I'll probably give up on them eventually.

I go by the nickname of RobertM.

Reminder:

Tonight December 10 at 6:30 pm I'll be at http://live.brandnewchurch.com/. A local quack is holding an online Live Q&A. The quack is Shannon O'Dell the pastor of Brand New Church (BNC). He has sattelite churches in Mountain Home, Bryant, Springdale(?), and the mother church is in Bergman (5 miles from Harrison). This is the last time I plan to bug him. He doesn't seem to want to talk to me in person, so I'll not bother them after tonight.

There's no registration required for this, so anyone from all over the world can attend and ask embarrassing theological questions. The bad thing is that there is no rebuttal. He answers the question and that's it.

They also have a "temporary" church in Fayetteville. They rent Vandergriff elementary school (the gym I assume) on Sunday evenings.

I've noticed a few new churches opening in non-traditional locations in Fayetteville - Where Dillons grocery store was on Hwy 45 (by Eureka Pizza) is "The CHurch of Arkansas" or something like that, and another one on Township where the hot tub store used to be, with some hip net name the marketing guys must have come up with....interesting trend away from the standard Methodist, Bapist, Presbyterian thing to more of a "hey, let's make up our own church" thing.

I'm assuming these new made-up churches are evangelical, probably even moreso than your average Baptist church, but don't know that for a fact....

DAR
With the crappy economy people will have more time and inclination to stuff religious nonsense in their heads. With reality not looking so good, people increasingly turn to fantasy. It will be a boon to some churches and others subsisting on tithes (their cut) may take a hit.

Betsy,

Don't underestimate BNC. It's not just a small little store front church. BNC is a mega-church with over 3000 people attending services in Bergman alone. No telling how many attend if you count the 3 sattelite churches. Technically it's a member of the Southern Baptist Convention. However, they may have techings that are slightly unorthodox to a baptist.

I stand corrected by tmiller51. The sattelite church in NWA is in Fayeteville, not Springdale.
