Michigan School Board bans I.D. in science classes

Post by Savonarola »

LANSING, Michigan (AP) -- The State Board of Education on Tuesday approved public school curriculum guidelines that support the teaching of evolution in science classes -- but not intelligent design.

Intelligent design instruction could be left for other classes in Michigan schools, but it doesn't belong in science class, according to the unanimously adopted guidelines.

"The intent of the board needs to be very clear," said board member John Austin, an Ann Arbor Democrat. "Evolution is not under stress. It is not untested science."

...

Richard Thompson, leader of the Thomas More Law Center in Ann Arbor, said intelligent design should have a home in science classes. The center describes its mission as defending the religious freedom of Christians.

"It would make students more knowledgeable about science and more interested in science," he said in a phone interview. "Evolution is a theory. It's not a fact."

"The religious freedom of Christians"? But I thought I.D. had nothing to do with religion...
Good to see that they're still shooting themselves in the feet. Incredible that people are too busy thumping their Bibles to look down and notice the gaping wounds. Also nice to see that they're sticking with the same old "theory not fact" claptrap that exposes their ignorance of science.

Even they are intelligent enough to know they have to stick with the "theory not fact" line to have any case at all. If they claim it's fiction they get laughed out of court. If they claim it's fact, they've already lost their case. Good for Michigan! They can discuss ID in philosophy classes to their hearts' content, but they've kept it out of the science classroom.
